Lugenia Madeline Hamilton nee Harley, better known as “Granny”, passed away peacefully at the age of 101 on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Born August 7, 1916, she lived a good and joyous life.
Granny grew up in Wilmington, California, where she was a graduate of Phineas Banning High School in 1935. It was there that she met the love of her life, R. W. “Wes” Hamilton. They married in 1936, and were married until her husband passed away in 2008. Granny and Wes were blessed with two sons, Wesley Clinton, born 1938, and Kenneth Paul, born 1941.
Granny devoted her life to her family and was always there for them whenever they needed her. She was quick-witted, soft-hearted, and loved by many. Granny had seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Granny was preceded in death by her husband Big Wes, grandson, Bradley, and daughter-in-law, Glenda.
Special thanks to the staff of Ruthaven Senior Home in Covington, Washington where Granny spent the final years of her life. There, she enjoyed playing games (oftentimes winning), watching the Mariners on TV, and dining with the other residents. Granny often boasted that she never had a cavity or a headache in her lifetime.
A private graveside service will be held for family members at Hillcrest Burial Park.
Gone from us that smiling face,
The cheerful pleasant ways,
The heart that won so many friends,
In bygone, happy days.
A life made beautiful by kindly deeds,
A helping hand for others’ needs.
To a beautiful life,
Comes a happy end,
She died as she lived,
Everyone’s friend.
