James Johnson Obituary

On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, James Carl Johnson passed away at the age of 83 at Valley Hospital in Renton, Washington. James, also known as Jim or Jimmy, was born to Mary and Carl Johnson in Grand Forks, North Dakota on June 18, 1940.

James retired early from the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller. Jim then began a second career as a circuit board designer at Physio. James enjoyed a variety of hobbies during his lifetime including playing the guitar and banjo, oil painting, and watching old movies.

James is preceded in death by his father, Carl; mother, Mary; son, Matthew; sister, Carroll Johnson; and three brothers, Kenneth, Steven, and Frank.

James is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Norma; stepsons Brett and Bart Kelly, whom he raised from childhood; seven grandchildren; his 2-year-old great-grandson; his daughter-in-law; three nieces; one nephew; and several cousins.

 A funeral service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Esophagus Cancer or Lung Cancer Society in Jim’s name.
