Michael Porter Obituary

Michael Melvin Porter, 73, of Auburn, WA, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, from a heart attack.

Born on June 27, 1947 in Destin, Florida, he was the son of the late Betty Bisson (née Brown) and Mel Porter.  His grandparents were the late Clarence and Lucy Porter and the William Browns of Destin, Florida.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Porter (née McGregor), children, Michael Paul Porter and spouse, Elizabeth Porter (née Peck) and Meghan Elizabeth Ryan (née Porter) and spouse, Michael Ryan II.  Mike’s extended family includes grandchildren, Liliana Marie Porter, Aston Connor James Ryan, and Ares Tyler Julius Ryan.  Mike’s siblings include his sister, Angel Blair and brothers, the late Christopher Porter and Terry Porter.  Mike’s beloved pets include the late Casey Porter and the late Ebony Eyes Porter and his current chocolate lab puppy, Sierra Rose Coco Puff.

Michael Melvin Porter worked as a commercial inspector at the time of his passing and had started his own inspection business in the Seattle Area in 2002.  During Mike’s life, he served in the US Navy on the USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War.  Additionally, his hobbies included golfing, sailing, wine, photography, but his most loved hobby was reading.  When he first met Mary Anne, their first date was a book fair and they instantly connected.  He loved being a grandpa to all his grandkids and spoiled them rotten.  His greatest passion in life was his family and he was always there for us through the good times and bad times.  Mike was well known for his sense of humor and jokes; he always did his best to find the humor in any situation.

A funeral service will be held at 12pm PST on Thursday December 31, 2020 at Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel in Kent, WA.  The family will be planning a Celebration of Life gathering to remember Mike with his family and friends tentatively this coming Summer 2021 (more details to come).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local animal shelter.  Michael loved animals and cherished his pets throughout his life.  It would be important to Mike to share any donations to shelter animals so that they can be given a chance at a new life.
