Born in Seattle, and raised in Renton, Wa.
He joined the navy in 1958.  In 1960 he met his wife Sila in Hawaii, while she was  performing as a professional hula dancer.
They knew each other for 33 days before they got married.  Their marriage lasted for over 60 years until his death. Peter retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service where he spent most of those years in San Diego, California and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  After his retirement in 1977, he moved his family to his hometown of Renton, Washington, where he started his second career as an Owner Operator Truck Driver for the next 30 plus years.
They raised 3 sons, Bert (who passed away in 1994), Pete Ruhl, and Lucky Ruhl (wife Karen).  He leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Breanne Guest (Chris Guest), Joshua Ruhl (Mackenzie), Sila Ruhl (Ian Wells), Elijah Ruhl, Savannah Ruhl, Lucas Ruhl, Bryce Ruhl, Brooklynn Ruhl, and his great granddaughter Jordyn Guest.
