Richard Miles Obituary

Richard Daniel “Dan” Miles, age 94, passed away on Friday evening, December 30, 2022. Dan was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and greatgreat grandfather to a large family that will miss him very much. He was born to Richard Andrew and Irene Matilda Miles on January 22, 1928 in Seattle, WA. After graduating from Ballard High School in 1946, he joined the Marine Corps where he served in the Korean War. In 1946 he married Virginia C. Miles and they were happily married for 63 years, raising 5 children. Dan was a Seattle Seahawk fan and a Seattle Mariner Fan from the very beginning and it was so special that he got to experience the 2022 Mariner’s playoff run. Dan retired from United Airlines in 1982 after 37.5 years and then began a second career as a travel agent with East West Travel. As a travel agent he enjoyed assisting people in planning their dream vacations while at the same time sharing his lifelong love of travel. He was fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel around the world with his wife before her passing in 2010. Dan was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Renton.

Many fond memories are shared by family and friends from their property at Maggie Lake near Hood Canal. As his family goes through many pictures and highlights of year’s past, Dan is a dominant figure in these photos- either swimming in the lake, spending time with family in a lounge chair on the deck, or partying it up with “The Maggie Lake Gang”. These snapshots depict what a wonderful life Dan shared with us.

Dan is survived by 5 children: Rick (Barbara), Chris (Greg), Tyra (Lee), Mike (Carrie), and Diane (Eric); 10 grandchildren: Cheryl (Shane), Bryan (Denise), Justin (Jessica), Jill (Mason), Elizabeth (Keith), Ruthie, Braedyn (Gina), Aaron (Zoey), Brandon (Alexa), and Carson (Carly); 12 great grandchildren: Courtney (Dwayne), Rebekah (Scott), Emma, Zachery (Meredith), Luke, Lindsey (Tyrese), Rylee Grace, Benjamin, Emelia, Kiran, Varya, and Jordan; 4 great-great grandchildren: Sevenity, Madison, Ember, and Zanovia.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Dan will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The American Parkinson Disease Association in Virginia’s memory.
